Tired

I have read so many articles and watched so many motivational videos speaking about why you’re always tired. You get up too early, or you don’t go to sleep at the right time for your body to get the best quality of sleep possible. I then conflict this with all those videos on YouTube which say that “waking up at 5 am will change your life!”, yapping off all these different qualities you will possess once beginning this.

I believed it for a long time, the only reason that I thought I was failing in life was because I didn’t get up early enough. I remember a few years back, I would wake up at around 4:30 in the morning just so I could watch The Flash as soon as it came out. Though it isn’t as appealing as it was back then, it was my motivation for getting up early.

Your body needs between 8-9 hours of sleep each night to function properly. Sure, you may have a coffee or tea in the morning to get that extra energy, but then you are borrowing from tomorrow’s energy, meaning you’ll feel twice as tired as tomorrow.

I realise now that the reason I saw myself as a failure is not because I didn’t wake up early enough, it was that I didn’t have that motivation in the morning to get up early. Watching my favourite programmes at dawn made me happy to wake up, getting up to do nothing does not.

Before you embark on the road to waking up early, ask yourself if it’s really what you want and what are the benefits?

Finally, make sure your body gets enough sleep. A healthy body equals a healthy mind.

Happy sleeping!
